  • White background, as the guidelines require
  • Close framing of the head and top of the shoulders, with the face filling about 80% of the photo
  • Eight copies on one 10 × 15 cm print, or 25 on an A4 page

How to Use

  1. 1Ask someone to take your photo from about 1.5 metres, facing the camera in even light, without glasses.
  2. 2Drop the photo here. The background turns white and the head is framed closely, as the rules ask.
  3. 3Check the preview and drag or resize so the top of your hair and your chin sit on the guide lines.
  4. 4Download the 630 × 810 px photo to upload, or the print sheet for paper forms.

Your privacy

Your photo is processed by your browser and never uploaded, so your face stays on your phone or computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the new Indian passport photo rules?

Indian passport photos now follow the ICAO standard: a colour photo on a white background, a close-up of the head and top of the shoulders with the face taking up 80–85% of the photo, looking straight at the camera with eyes open and mouth closed, no glasses, natural skin tones, no shadows and no changes by software.

What size is the digital photo?

630 × 810 pixels, in colour. "Download photo" gives a JPG of exactly that size, which is 35 × 45 mm when printed.

Do I need my own photo for a passport application in India?

Not at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, where your photo is taken at the counter. You need your own photo when you apply through an Indian embassy or consulate abroad, and for the many other forms that ask for a passport size photo.

Can I still use a 2×2 inch photo?

Not for passports: the guidelines now use 35 × 45 mm. Some other forms still ask for 2 × 2 inches; choose that size in the menu if yours does.

Why does the photo look so close?

The guidelines ask for the face to fill 80–85% of the photo, closer than older passport photos. The tool frames it that way; use the head size slider if another form asks for more space around the head.
