Frequently Asked Questions

How do I copy text from an image?

Add the image above. The text appears in the box below a few seconds later, and the Copy text button puts it on your clipboard.

Can it read handwriting?

Neat handwriting with separate letters sometimes works, but the reader is made for printed and typed text. Joined-up handwriting usually comes out wrong.

How can I get better results?

Use a sharp, well-lit picture where the text is straight and fills most of the frame, and choose the right language. For a screenshot, crop it to the part you need.

Can it read a scanned PDF?

Yes. Drop the PDF and every page is read in order. The text of all pages appears in one box.

Why does the first use take a little longer?

The first time, your browser downloads the text reader and the language model (1 to 3 MB per language). They are kept on your device, so the next pictures start right away.
